Cuhaci Peterson Philadelphia Office Relocation Allows Greater Flexibility for Firm

By Press Release

July 18, 2023

New space located near popular train line, rustic neighborhood and local eateries

Cuhaci Peterson has officially relocated its Philadelphia office from Blue Bell, PA to nearby Ambler, PA; offering greater flexibility for its employees and customers.

The new space, located on South Maple Street, is directly across the street from the Ambler SEPTA train station, making travel to and from center city Philadelphia extremely convenient.

“The design of this office was very intentional,” said Bryon McCarthy, Principal. “We wanted this office to offer the comforts of home, the convenience of commuting options, and easy access to shops, banking, lunch choices and other amenities that our employees didn’t have in our previous office,” he added.

“We’re seeing some of our clients moving to surrounding areas and it’s exciting to be able to show off our new space and get back to face-to-face interaction instead of video conferencing,” McCarthy furthered. “We welcome our clients and partners to visit anytime and to use our space as their own, which will no doubt ensure mutual success while building even stronger relationships,” he stated.

In addition to the Ambler (Philadelphia) office, the firm operates locations in Boston, Central Florida and Phoenix and has representatives located nationwide.

Located in one of Orlando’s core industrial parks, this project for Gramercy Property Trust is just one of the many industrial projects under Cuhaci Peterson's belt.

The project is a concrete tilt-wall construction project with just over 50,000 square feet. CP’s engineers designed a special foundation for a motion system which tests equipment by simulating certain types of conditions through vibration and movement. The tenant required special consideration for large flight simulators to be installed. The building design accounted for the simulator’s dynamics and clearances. Foundations were developed to anchor the simulators while being isolated from the building. Additionally, fully removeable concrete panels were used on one side of the building to allow for future expansion plans.

Cuhaci Peterson provided an efficient solution for Kuser Road Developments by designing a unique moment frame to stabilize the warehouse.

This precast warehouse required specialized structural modifications (including cross-bracing) and post-construction documentation to meet tenant design specifications. Special provisions were required for the substantial building length. The structure was for a 900-foot long insulated concrete and steel framed building structure. CP coordinated with the owner and contractor during design allowing the building to be fine-tuned to current market conditions to deliver an optimal design.

Mercedes-Benz USA

Synonymous with quality and efficiency, when Mercedes-Benz needed to integrate multiple distinct business units into one cohesive space, they turned to the experts at Cuhaci Peterson.

From an original scope to relocate a Mercedes-Benz regional Parts Distribution Center, into an existing 415,000 square foot building, this project evolved into the designing of a state-of-the-art multi-use space, housing four distinct business units. Integrating the Sales Operations Southern Region Office, Quality Evaluation Center, Learning and Performance Center, and a stunning showroom into a warehouse initially only intended to be used for the Parts Distribution Center had challenges due to the specific requirements of each entity. Mercedes-Benz knew that incorporating these national and regional components together into one space would result in operational efficiencies, but this project needed to stick to a tight timeline in order to maintain exceptional service and not disrupt supply chain.

“Constant communication and unparalleled collaboration were required to fast track the Mercedes Benz project in Jacksonville, FL as the scope was being defined and changed constantly by a variety of end user groups both overseas and domestically while the turnover timeline remained the same. The Elkins and Cuhaci Peterson teams accepted the challenge adopting a “whatever it takes” attitude by both teams to make the owner’s needs a reality.”

Rob Crow, Vice President, Elkins Construction (at time of project)

“We needed to fast track a project in Jacksonville, Florida, which had numerous scope changes from different stakeholders, both here in the U.S. and abroad. Cuhaci Peterson was there for us with constant communication and unparalleled collaboration, accepting any challenge with a can-do mindset, and ultimately making our project needs a reality.”

Willi Goosen, Executive Project Manager, Mercedes-Benz USA (at time of project)

With the addition of more operations, our team quickly identified the need to increase the lease area to include the entire building and build a 19,000 square foot mezzanine that would ultimately house the regional office.

The Challenge

The incorporation of the regional office led to a variety of necessary modifications to the existing structure in order to support the mezzanine and the elevator to access it. Additionally, our team designed and applied innovative solutions to natural lighting and sound-proofing to minimize noise interruptions from the airport. Similar considerations were needed for the other entities as well. An explosion-proof room had to be created, clearance solutions to allow for the additional height of Sprinter vans, and a last-minute addition of an indoor parking area for 100 fleet vehicles were some of the incredible challenges our team expertly executed.

With a rigorous deadline, and a brand that demands excellence in all areas, our team needed to not only approach this project with ingenuity but also with the understanding that Mercedes-Benz was looking to not just move into a new space, but to create something incredible. The integration of all different elements into one shared building required a revolving door of communication between Mercedes-Benz USA, the general contractor, and the Cuhaci Peterson team. But the traditional format of review-feedback-approval would simply not work for this project. To stay on track and meet the deadline, our team needed to implement a new process as slick as the S-class itself!

This project is just one of many industrial facilities in the CP portfolio, but we continue to use this example not only because of the recognizable Mercedes-Benz brand name, but also as an example of how this project highlights how our years of innovative, dynamic, and collaborative problem-solving abilities translate to any market. We chose to innovate, pivot, and adapt, in order to deliver an exceptional end result.

The Solution

The Cuhaci Peterson team knew that with the strict time constraint, we needed to be strategic in every aspect of the project. The first thing to go was the traditional approval process. Every moment was precious and by revamping this process into a more streamlined approach, we felt confident that the deadline would be attainable.

We determined that the best solution would be to adopt a one-room design concept, bringing representatives from all parties around a shared REVIT (building information modeling software) rendering to allow instant feedback on how incorporation of an element would impact surrounding environments. We were able to produce and document elements all within REVIT, which we could then use to present the final construction documents. The implementation of the one-room design allowed us a flawless collaboration between European team members and those of us in the Orlando conference room, shaving precious time off of the otherwise often daunting feedback-approval process.

With a strict deadline to meet, having The motivated client and team made for a dynamic project that was heralded by MBUSA and received an ABC Eagle Award in Construction Award in 2011.

Bowman’s Geospatial Division Delivers Advanced LiDAR Ceiling Scanning Techniques to Cuhaci Peterson

By Press Release

January 17, 2023

Bowman Consulting Group Ltd. (collectively with its subsidiaries, the “Company” or “Bowman”) (NASDAQ: BWMN) announced that Cuhaci Peterson™, a nationally-recognized architecture and engineering firm, has teamed with Bowman’s geospatial division to deliver time and cost savings for their clients by utilizing Bowman’s minimally invasive ceiling scanning techniques.

Interior scanning of structures that have ceiling tiles, like grocery stores, presents a challenge for efficiency and accuracy for surveyors. Bowman took on this challenge to develop a new and proven technique that is simple, elegant, accurate, and most of all, repeatable in other environments.

Prior to developing this technique, ground level 3-D scanning in an open interior environment was simple enough. However, tying that information to the scanning data above the ceiling tiles was difficult unless they were all removed, which is inefficient and time consuming. For Bowman’s geospatial team, the key was finding a way to tie the scans vertically throughout the space at different elevations, then mapping them horizontally to develop the entire landscape of the structure. Cuhaci Peterson was specifically looking for a national partner who could provide this type of service, in a timely manner and within their data requirements, for structures that were 60,000-100,000 square feet.

The wealth of data provided by Bowman in just two evenings of scanning, allowed Cuhaci Peterson to streamline the development of recent commercial designs with precise knowledge of both the visible building interior and above ceiling structure of the facility. Bowman’s scanning revealed previously unknown information about the structure that could only have been discovered using this technique.

“When we saw the sophisticated detail that Bowman’s geospatial team could provide, along with the efficiency of their processes, we knew that it would allow us to deliver a real advantage to our clients,” said Bryon McCarthy, Cuhaci Peterson principal. “It is a win whenever we can bring time and cost efficiency into our design process. Bowman has proven to be a solid, and innovative, asset in delivering on this commitment to our clients.”

“Bowman continues to evaluate and refine new scanning capabilities to deliver incredible detail and data accuracy to forward-thinking firms like Cuhaci Peterson,” said Marc Olmeda, PLS, Bowman principal. “Our processes have proven to be exceptionally effective in retail and other difficult to access environments.”
