Cuhaci Peterson took home the hardware this past Thursday by teaming up to win the Arizona Commercial Real Estate (AZRE) annual real estate and development RED Award for “Restaurant Project of the Year.” CP provided the architectural services for Chef Joey’s Rosticceria, an Italian-themed dining concept located at 12811 N Tatum Blvd. in Phoenix, Arizona.
The establishment is owned by the Maggiore Group and curated by Chef Joey Maggiore, an executive chef and entrepreneur. The general contractor on the project was 41 North Contractors. The Rosticceria embodies his creative culinary concepts and captivating ambiance within the space.
“It was an honor to be a finalist member of the team for a RED Award but an even bigger honor to have won for Restaurant of the Year 2023, The Rosticceria by Chef Joey. What an honor for a challenging project with a cool unique design on a tight deadline, as always in the restaurant world, and of course fantastic food,” said Project Manager Eric Harris, Cuhaci Peterson.

Cuhaci Peterson has officially announced the hiring of Mark Fletcher, a respected industry veteran, who will be challenged to lead and develop the future of the firms’ sales and business development efforts. Fletcher will evaluate the timely adjustment of business development strategies and plans; recommending changes and philosophies when such changes serve the best interests of the organization. In addition, he will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer to deploy a new Client Relationship Manager (CRM) using Microsoft Dynamics.
Fletcher will define the department’s managerial actions, setting goals and targets, analyzing the performance of the sales team and aligning sales goals with revenue and earning goals.

New space located near popular train line, rustic neighborhood and local eateries
Cuhaci Peterson has officially relocated its Philadelphia office from Blue Bell, PA to nearby Ambler, PA; offering greater flexibility for its employees and customers.
The new space, located on South Maple Street, is directly across the street from the Ambler SEPTA train station, making travel to and from center city Philadelphia extremely convenient.
“The design of this office was very intentional,” said Bryon McCarthy, Principal. “We wanted this office to offer the comforts of home, the convenience of commuting options, and easy access to shops, banking, lunch choices and other amenities that our employees didn’t have in our previous office,” he added.
“We’re seeing some of our clients moving to surrounding areas and it’s exciting to be able to show off our new space and get back to face-to-face interaction instead of video conferencing,” McCarthy furthered. “We welcome our clients and partners to visit anytime and to use our space as their own, which will no doubt ensure mutual success while building even stronger relationships,” he stated.
In addition to the Ambler (Philadelphia) office, the firm operates locations in Boston, Central Florida and Phoenix and has representatives located nationwide.

Will Serve as Vice President of Design & Digital Practice
Cuhaci Peterson has officially announced the hiring of Juan Gimeno, a design industry veteran who will be challenged to change the future direction of architectural design and practice project delivery for the Central Florida-based firm.
In addition to managing the design process for projects, Gimeno will oversee computational design efforts and work in close coordination with the Director and Vice President of Architecture as well as the Digital Services team to ensure seamless integration between traditional and digital design processes.
This position will play a critical role in ensuring maximum value throughout the design, construction and operational life cycle of projects.
“We are excited to bring Juan back into the CP family,” said Chief Operating Officer, Joshua Inman. “His expertise and experience will enhance our traditional design capabilities, while driving the firm into the future of digital design and innovation.”

Arias will take the title of Principal; Carpenter will serve as Director of Information Technology and Payne will become Director of Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
Arias was promoted from Senior Project Manager to Principal leading the retail group and has more than 25 years of experience in the architecture industry with her professional services having spanned all project phases, from schematic design to construction administration, contractual documentation, bidding and interior design. Her zoning and permitting knowledge have helped entitle more than one million square feet of retail and has covered more than 75 jurisdictions with a specialization in South Florida, dealing with some of the most challenging jurisdictions in the nation. Arias has worked on projects in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey and Maryland.
Payne previously served as Senior Project Manager where he participated in many project types across multiple sectors. With more than 30 years’ experience, his ability to translate ideas into reality through workable designs while adapting quickly to new responsibilities to ensure smooth and efficient project completion makes him an invaluable leader of a fast-paced team. In his new role, Payne has been tasked with increasing the qualities and efficiencies of the end product along with coaching and mentoring teams.
Carpenter previously served as the firm’s Manager of Information Technology and has been with the company more than four and a half years. Carpenter and his team of six direct reports support all five of the firm’s offices as well as its remote employees. In his new role, he will shift his focus to researching newer technologies that can be applied to the company and its IT infrastructure. Arias, Carpenter and Payne will all be based in Orlando, Florida.

Inman will take the title of Chief Operating Officer while Gibson will serve as the firm’s new Director of Marketing and Communications.
Inman began his career at CP in 2003 and has held numerous roles in the firm, including project architect and project manager for the firm’s restaurant and food service programs. In his latest role, Inman served as the firm’s Director of Operations, leading digital system upgrades to set CP up for future success.
As COO, Inman will shift focus to operational efficiency. He will be accountable for all production operations, including evaluating and updating business procedures to align with the firm’s strategic future. “I look forward to serving our teams while enhancing the opportunities before us to transform our operations for long-term, continued success at CP,” Inman stated.
Gibson has extensive experience working corporately, and with network and cable television domestically and internationally. In his new role, Gibson will capitalize on his cross-functional leadership of multi-disciplinary teams to oversee the design, development and deployment of company-wide strategic marketing campaigns, communications and thought leadership while leveraging video marketing and content strategies to connect with audiences and grow CP’s digital footprint.

Bowman Consulting Group Ltd. (collectively with its subsidiaries, the “Company” or “Bowman”) (NASDAQ: BWMN) announced that Cuhaci Peterson™, a nationally-recognized architecture and engineering firm, has teamed with Bowman’s geospatial division to deliver time and cost savings for their clients by utilizing Bowman’s minimally invasive ceiling scanning techniques.
Interior scanning of structures that have ceiling tiles, like grocery stores, presents a challenge for efficiency and accuracy for surveyors. Bowman took on this challenge to develop a new and proven technique that is simple, elegant, accurate, and most of all, repeatable in other environments.
Prior to developing this technique, ground level 3-D scanning in an open interior environment was simple enough. However, tying that information to the scanning data above the ceiling tiles was difficult unless they were all removed, which is inefficient and time consuming. For Bowman’s geospatial team, the key was finding a way to tie the scans vertically throughout the space at different elevations, then mapping them horizontally to develop the entire landscape of the structure. Cuhaci Peterson was specifically looking for a national partner who could provide this type of service, in a timely manner and within their data requirements, for structures that were 60,000-100,000 square feet.
The wealth of data provided by Bowman in just two evenings of scanning, allowed Cuhaci Peterson to streamline the development of recent commercial designs with precise knowledge of both the visible building interior and above ceiling structure of the facility. Bowman’s scanning revealed previously unknown information about the structure that could only have been discovered using this technique.

Cuhaci Peterson is proud to announce its Senior Vice President of Design, Steven Duffy, will be one of the featured speakers at this year’s FMI Energy and Store Development Conference in Orlando. The three-day event on September 19-21 at the Renaissance Orlando at Sea World will explore key trends impacting food retail, energy use and management, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR), store development and sustainability.
While the firm has been regular attendees of the event in the past, this year’s attendance has more of a special meaning after a hiatus.

Cuhaci Peterson, a Central-Florida based architecture and engineering firm, enlisted nearly three dozen of its staff members nationwide in its recent Project Management Bootcamp. The two-day event was made possible through a collaboration with PSMJ Resources, Inc. and was the first of its kind at the more than 40-year-old business.

Cuhaci Peterson, a Central-Florida based architecture and engineering firm, is set to kick off the Innovation Zone at this year’s Convenience Foodservice Exchange (CFX) in Savannah, Georgia on June 21-22 at the Marriott Savannah Riverfront.
Greg Simpson, the firm’s chief executive officer, and Nathan Griffis, principal and convenience market leader, will give attendees of the exclusive content-rich executive summit critical tips on how to remain relevant, stand out and defeat barriers to entry… all while embracing future technologies.

Cuhaci Peterson has added another office to its location portfolio. Today the Central Florida-based architecture and engineering firm announced the opening of its new Phoenix, Arizona office, bringing more than a dozen jobs to the city. The new office space, located in downtown Phoenix in the historic Luhrs Tower, supports the company’s growth strategy.
“The decision to expand our presence into Phoenix was a logical step in our business growth strategy,” said Greg Simpson, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer. “The area is rich with diverse talent, home to some of our clients and enables us to increase our ability to service current and future markets.”
The firm has tapped Eric Harris, a 30-year architecture and engineering industry veteran, to lead the office, which will also include business development efforts spearheaded by Jade Nunes, Assistant Manager of Business Development.
“I am very proud to be part of this new office that extends Cuhaci Peterson’s reach to the West,” Harris exclaimed. “With a great staff already in place, this location will allow us to better serve local clients while expanding our offerings to existing national clients as far as the West Coast.”

Firm Strengthening Its West Coast Footprint; Adding Jobs To Downtown Area
Cuhaci Peterson is planning an expansion in the Southwest with the opening of a new Phoenix office downtown in the Luhrs Tower, which is located at the southeast corner of First Avenue and Jefferson Street.
A beautifully restored 14-story Art Deco masterpiece built in 1929, the Luhrs Tower was the tallest building in the Southwest for decades. The location provides easy access to Valley Metro Rail, walk/bike access and a dedicated parking garage on-site.
The move helps strengthen the firm’s West Coast footprint while initially bringing as many as 15 new jobs to the Phoenix area. The firm is targeting a January 2022 opening.
“We’ve been looking at expansion in the Phoenix area for some time and this move makes sense for both our company and the clients we serve. We’re extremely excited to get going while supporting the city and region’s continued economic growth,” said Greg Simpson, Chief Executive Officer.
When it opens, the Phoenix office will join the firm’s other locations in Boston, Central Florida and Philadelphia. In addition to these offices, C&P also has representatives nationwide.

Cuhaci Peterson and TLC Management have teamed up once again to provide top-of-the-line senior living facilities with the opening of two new facilities in Florida. Wesley Chapel’s Blue Heron Senior Living officially opened its doors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wed. April 28 and was followed by Oak Hill Senior Living (Brooksville) on Thu. April 29. Both facilities offer a wide variety of comfortable amenities and customized facilities including:

At the 156,745 square-foot Blue Heron facility, residents will find 104 private units in their skilled nursing facility, 73 assisted living apartments and 22 private memory care units, in order to provide a continuum of care. At the 131,669 square-foot Oak Hill facility, residents will find 109 private units in their skilled nursing facility, 41 assisted living apartments and 20 private memory care units, in order to provide a continuum of care.
Both facilities were designed to house large rehabilitation centers including advanced technological state-of-the-art equipment. Cuhaci Peterson provided custom building and site designs for each of the new facilities that were tailored to the TLC vision for enhanced resident experiences and operational efficiencies to provide the highest level of resident care.
“Rather than providing separate buildings for each resident function, the Oak Hill facility building design utilized interconnected buildings for centralized shared support and operations which allowed for a portion of the site to remain available for future development by TLC. This was an added benefit to the client,” said C&P project coordinator Scott Parker.
“For the Blue Heron location, the consolidation of the buildings was further enhanced to address the angular geometry and smaller size of the site. This was achieved in part with taller ALF and skilled nursing buildings which also provided a more compact building footprint and increased lakeside views. The angular connections also created individual courtyards for each type of resident,” Parker furthered.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the sudden passing of our firm’s co-founder, Lonnie Peterson. Although he retired from CP in 2016, the sound of Lonnie’s signature laugh could be heard long after his office was empty. If you ever met him, the impression he made was a lasting one. He will be missed and fondly remembered. Founding Cuhaci Peterson in 1978, Lonnie made a tremendous impact in the commercial design industry, helping turn a one-man office into a nationally recognized architecture and engineering firm.
Many of you knew him through his connection to the commercial real estate industry and his long association with the International Council of Shopping Centers. We offer our condolences to his wife, Karen, and his extended family, especially Karah Wilson, his niece, who works for the firm today. As service information becomes available, we will honor the family’s wishes in our announcements.

Cuhaci Peterson has named Jose Diaz Vice President of Mechanical Engineering. With the firm since 2011, Diaz has played an important role in developing engineering solutions for the firm’s clients, including contributions to the growth of one of the firm’s largest retail programs. He will be responsible for leading the firm’s mechanical engineering discipline, facilitating strategy, and setting direction for the service line group within the organization.
CP Vice President of Electrical Engineering, Jaison Moras, stated: “His dedication to engineering the best solutions for our clients and sharing knowledge with his peers are just a couple of the many reasons Jose will excel in this role.”
His experience is vast, including preparing mechanical and plumbing design plans for stores throughout the Southeast, working on-site to verify mechanical, plumbing and refrigeration for remodels, Siphonic roof drain calculations, mechanical functional performance tests for new stores, QC, RFI responses and construction administration. Diaz is an integral part of the firm’s engineering leadership.
A member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and a licensed professional engineer in 10 states, Diaz has also performed HVAC and plumbing design for retail projects along the U.S. East Coast.

Cuhaci Peterson promoted Steven Duffy to Senior Vice President of Design. Duffy joined the firm in 2015 as the Vice President of Grocery. A graduate of the Pratt Institute, Steve has more than 30 years of national retail focused experience, spanning big box to boutiques. His work has encompassed nearly every facet of grocery and retail design, including store development programs, prototyping, and brand reinvention. Steve is active in both the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and Food Marketing Institute (FMI). Additionally, he engages in speaking engagements throughout the industry and has been published in Progressive Grocer and The Mid-Atlantic Real Estate Journal.
Cuhaci Peterson CEO, Greg Simpson said, “He will help the firm continue to develop an integrated approach to architecture and will be working with other service lines to perfect an end-to-end design philosophy for us.” He went on to say, “As he becomes increasingly active with the design team, they will work together to position assets and help fill out some aspirational roles within the firms strategic plan.”
As SVP of Design, Duffy will use his extensive knowledge to further support the firm’s concept design group, while guiding teams and encouraging cohesive and collaborative designs. Simpson added, “The ultimate goal is to continue to elevate design within our organization and for our clients.”

After undergoing a strategic reorganization, Bob Day and Chris Renegar have been named Co-Directors of Architecture, and Melanie Quimby, Nathan Griffis and Bishoy Girges are now Program Directors. Amy Phillips steps into a new role of Director of Sales and Analytics.
