From its inception, the development team at Tavistock Development Company (TDC) knew that the next big retail project for the Lake Nona area, Lake Nona West Retail, needed to be special.

With a Super Target store as its major anchor, TDC worked with the Creative Studio at Cuhaci Peterson (architects/engineers) along with its site design partners at Kimley-Horn (civil) and Innovations Design Group (landscape/hardscape) to design adjacent complementary retail spaces. A new retail destination that would combine the vertical environment containing shopping sophistication and public art with a well-planned site for an enhanced customer experience.

Working together, the project team of designers and developers created a pedestrian-friendly, visually cohesive development while integrating 7 unique large-scale anchor tenants with 26 boutique retail spaces and one-of-a-kind activity plaza. We understood that creating a space of this magnitude — a harmonious blend of intimate, walk-able pathways with a grand sense of arrival, an extensive gamma of colors and design moments meant reimagining every detail to ensure coherence, beauty and functionality.

“Our vision was to create more than just buildings; we set out to design an environment that feels both aspirational and profoundly engaging — a canvas where innovation and creativity converge to redefine the essence of placemaking. Lake Nona West Retail is more than a project for us; it is a living work of art, crafted to inspire, captivate and indulge every visitor, leaving an impression that lingers long after their visit.”

As the sculpted facades and curated artwork converge with complimentary landscaping and lighting, every component was meticulously crafted to elevate the overall experience — a commitment embraced as essential to delivering a vibrant, richly layered environment. A destination where every corner holds a unique experience — a place where paths, views, vegetation and lighting intentionally create spaces to encourage journey and discovery inviting visitors to an atmosphere that is both welcoming and awe-inspiring. This level of attention to detail allows us to strike the delicate balance between large-scale visual impact and intimate moments that speak to human emotion.

Juan Gimeno: “For Lake Nona West Retail, our approach has been to thoughtfully balance the visual scale and character of each building, ensuring a harmonious relationship that enhances, rather than competes with its surroundings.”

For TDC, where commitment to community engagement has always been a part of their core design philosophy, the project represented collaboration opportunities with local artists and cultural organizations to ensure that the art integrated into the facades resonated with the community’s identity and aspirations, enriching the visual landscape of Lake Nona West Retail and fostering a sense of ownership and pride among residents and visitors alike.

Juan Gimeno: “We intentionally wanted to set a new standard for experiential retail experiences by pushing boundaries using design as our main tool, marking a shift in how we approach spaces that are not only functional but can touch guests emotionally. Our journey here is about creating a memorable destination that inspires a sense of wonder and connection, setting a benchmark for what’s possible when design and vision align with purpose and artistry.”

Lake Nona West Retail is a destination where sophistication and artistry converge to offer a shopping experience that goes beyond the ordinary. More than just a place to shop, a journey into a world of refined aesthetics and immersive beauty that ultimately represents the team’s commitment to open collaboration and pushing the boundaries of traditional retail development by exploring new ways as a fundamental component of the design. Creating a sense of place that not only meets commercial needs but also enriches the social and cultural fabric of the community, where innovation thrives, creativity is celebrated, and every visitor can find something that resonates with them personally.
